Role at Dova: I seek first to truly understand our healthcare professionals and their patients. Once I “get them,” I then try and provide them with all the necessary information and resources to help them make the right decisions. My ultimate goal is for patients to live healthier and more productive lives.
Brightest professional “light bulb” moment: The “light bulb” went off the day I realized that a true leader is not measured by the metrics he/she hits, but rather by his/her ability to develop a team, so that they are better and stronger than they were the day before. The greatest legacy a leader can leave is in the quality of people he/she leaves behind.
Greatest accomplishment outside of work: Serving on the board of PAWS (Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society). PAWS is Philadelphia’s largest no-kill shelter dedicated to saving the city’s homeless, abandoned and unwanted animals.
Favorite quote: “You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand.”
– Woodrow Wilson
Defining piece of art, media or pop culture: “Guernica” by Picasso, is one of the greatest masterpieces ever created. I was fortunate to see it at the MOMA before it was transferred back to Spain. Few works of art are as powerful in conveying the human condition and the horrors of war (in this case, the Spanish Civil War). Guernica taught me the true value and power of communication.
What you do when you’re not here: Travel. There is nothing more exciting than exploring the world, meeting new people and discovering new cultures. In the end, we discover that we are actually more alike than we are different.
Education: I am grateful to Northwestern University (BA) for not only helping me to develop strong strategic and critical thinking skills, but a love for learning. This last trait has helped propel and motivate me throughout my entire career.
